GCSE Biology tuition that earns its marks
Small-group GCSE Biology tuition runs at 2341 Coventry Road, Birmingham and live online, working from past papers on your child's own specification: AQA 8461, Edexcel 1BI0 or OCR Gateway J247, Foundation or Higher. The exam itself is here too: as a JCQ-approved centre we enter private candidates for £250 at Birmingham, and summer 2027 entries close on 1 February 2027.

The recall is the easy half
Most students can learn what osmosis is. The marks they lose sit elsewhere: unfamiliar contexts, data and graph questions, the six-mark extended answers, and the required practical questions that reward knowing why a step exists rather than remembering that it happened. So our lessons run content first, then straight into past-paper questions from your child's own board and tier, with the mark scheme applied line by line until the answers start scoring the way examiners score them.
There is a quieter grade-capper too: maths. At least a tenth of GCSE Biology marks are mathematical, from percentages and ratios to magnification and rate calculations, and weak arithmetic drags biology down long before anyone blames the biology. When that is the real problem, our GCSE Maths tuition fixes it at the source.
Triple or Combined? Decide with evidence
Triple Science gives Biology its own GCSE on AQA 8461, Edexcel 1BI0 or OCR Gateway J247. Combined Science covers all three sciences for two grades, on AQA Trilogy 8464, Edexcel 1SC0 or OCR Gateway J250, with less content per subject. Triple suits students likely to take science A-levels; Combined suits students who need the breadth without the extra load. We do not guess which is which: the free diagnostic gives a working grade in each science, and the choice follows the evidence.
Plans and prices
Biology rarely travels alone, so the plans bundle it with the subjects it is usually sat beside. Full detail sits on our GCSE tuition page and every figure is on the fees page.
- Science focus, £15 an hour: maths and science together, four hours a week, £240 a month
- Full programme, £12.50 an hour: Maths, English Language and Literature, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, six hours a week, £300 a month
- One-to-one, £40 an hour: Biology only, any board and tier, in centre or online
Sitting the exam as a private candidate
Home-educated students and retake candidates sit GCSE Biology with us every summer. Entry is £250 at Birmingham, more at our other centres, see the fees page, and it covers the board fee, invigilation and your seat. Register through the booking form and we confirm within one working day. Required practicals are examined in the written papers, so most candidates need nothing extra; where a specification route does require a supervised practical endorsement, we run sessions in May 2027 for £500.
GCSE Biology FAQs
Should we choose Triple or Combined Science?
Choose Triple if science A-levels are likely and the timetable can carry three full GCSEs; choose Combined if breadth with a lighter load matters more. The free diagnostic gives a working grade in each science so the decision rests on evidence rather than instinct.
Can private candidates sit GCSE Biology with you?
Yes. Exam-only entry is £250 at Birmingham, more at our other centres, and you register directly through our booking form without needing a school. Both Foundation and Higher tiers are available on AQA, Edexcel and OCR.
Do private candidates need a practical endorsement?
Usually not, because GCSE Biology required practicals are assessed within the written papers. Where a specification route does require a supervised endorsement, we run sessions in May 2027 for £500.
When do entries close for summer 2027?
Entries for the May/June 2027 series close on 1 February 2027. GCSE Biology does not run in the November series, so that is the only deadline that matters this year.
