Can you sit A-level Geography as a private candidate when the NEA demands fieldwork? Yes: the written papers run at our JCQ-approved centre for £400 at Birmingham, the NEA fieldwork investigation is assessed for £400, and entries for May and June 2027 close on 1 February 2027. Tuition itself runs in small essay-focused groups at £30 an hour and one-to-one at £50, at our Birmingham centre at 2341 Coventry Road, Sheldon, and live online, covering AQA 7037, Edexcel 9GE0, OCR H481 and Cambridge International 9696.

A-level Geography rewards students who can turn knowledge into judgement: a 20-mark essay is not a tour of everything you know about Bangladesh, it is an answer. So every lesson runs on past-paper questions from your own board, under time, with the levels-based mark scheme applied afterwards line by line.
We pick a tight set of case studies early, then make each one work across physical and human papers, so revision compounds instead of sprawling. The essay discipline is the same one we build in A-level History, and plenty of students take the two together.

On AQA, Edexcel and OCR, the independent investigation is worth 20% of the A-level: a written report built on fieldwork data you collect yourself. Home-educated students and retakers are often told this makes Geography impossible as a private candidate. It does not.

Do private candidates have to do the Geography NEA?
Yes, on AQA, Edexcel and OCR the independent investigation is compulsory and worth 20% of the A-level. We assess and submit the NEA for AQA and Edexcel candidates for £400, and if you would rather avoid coursework entirely, Cambridge International 9696 is examined by written papers alone.
How much does A-level Geography tuition cost?
Small essay-focused groups are £30 an hour, which is £240 a month at two hours a week, and one-to-one is £50 an hour. Every plan is on the fees page.
Which exam board should I choose for A-level Geography?
We teach AQA 7037, Edexcel 9GE0, OCR H481 and Cambridge International 9696, and for most students the right answer is the board their school already uses. Private candidates who want to skip fieldwork usually pick Cambridge 9696.
When do A-level Geography exam entries close?
Entries for the May and June 2027 series close on 1 February 2027. If your board includes the NEA, start the investigation well before that date, because the report takes months to research and write.
