The questions

Private exam entry

Can I sit a GCSE or A-level without attending a school?

Yes. A-Team Academy is a JCQ-approved centre and most of our candidates are private: home-educated students, resitters and adult learners who register directly with us. Start with the private candidates page, then enter via the booking form.

How do I register for an exam?

You register through our online booking form: pick a centre, add your subjects and boards, and send it. We confirm availability and your exact total within one working day, and nothing is paid before that confirmation.

Which exam boards do you offer?

AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC and Cambridge International, for GCSE, IGCSE, AS and A-level. We are also Trinity registered for graded music exams and GESE spoken English.

Can private candidates get access arrangements like extra time?

Yes. Extra time, rest breaks, a reader or a scribe can all be arranged for private candidates where JCQ evidence requirements are met. Send your evidence, such as a specialist report, an EHCP or a letter from a previous school, when you register, and well before the entry deadline.

Fees, deadlines and results

When do exam entries close?

Entries for the November 2026 series close on 1 October 2026, and entries for May/June 2027 close on 1 February 2027. Late entries after those dates carry board surcharges and depend on availability, so check the exam dates page and book early.

How much does it cost to sit an exam?

At Birmingham, GCSE Maths, English Language and the single sciences are £250 each; English Literature, History, Geography and most other GCSEs are £300; GCSE French and Spanish are £450; and all listed A-levels are £400. Fees are a little more at our other centres, see the fees page for every figure.

How do I get my results and certificates?

You get your results from us on results day, in person or sent to you, and board certificates follow in the autumn for collection or post. The results and certificates page explains timings for each series.

Can I ask for a remark if a grade looks wrong?

Yes. For any exam sat with us we can submit a review of marking, a clerical check or an appeal to the board, and priority services run for A-level students holding university offers. Deadlines are tight after results day, so read remarks and appeals as soon as results land.

May/June 2027 entries close 1 February 2027. Book early, pay standard fees.

Resits and home education

Can I resit GCSE English or Maths in November?

Yes. GCSE English Language and Maths run in the November 2026 series for post-16 resit candidates, and entries close on 1 October 2026. Every other subject is resat in the summer, and the resits page covers both routes with optional tuition alongside.

Do you support home-educating families?

Yes, home education is one of the biggest parts of what we do. Families get full live-taught timetables at £400 to £600 a month, structured GCSE pathways and a guaranteed exam seat at our own centres, so there is no scramble for a centre in Year 11. Start at the home education page.

Do adults take exams with you?

Constantly. Adults retaking GCSE Maths or English for nursing, teaching or an apprenticeship are among our largest groups every series, and plenty sit A-levels with us for university entry. The process is identical to any other private candidate, and we can act as your UCAS referee too.

Tuition, music and getting hold of us

How much is tuition?

Tuition starts at £12.50 an hour on the full GCSE programme, which is £300 a month for six hours a week; the Maths and English focus plan is £20 an hour, and one-to-one is £40 an hour at GCSE and £50 at A-level. Compare every plan on the fees page or start at tuition.

Do you teach online as well as in centre?

Yes. Online tuition runs live and nationwide with the same tutors and the same prices as our centres. Many families mix the two across the week.

Do you offer music lessons and music exams?

Yes. We teach piano, guitar and violin, and as a Trinity registered centre we host graded music exams on site, for our own learners and for external candidates.
